AUGUST 3rd SATURDAY
Fell Pony Society Breed Show, Brougham Park. 1 mile South of Penrith, beyond Eamont Bridge on A6. Judging starts at 8.30am prompt, until late afternoon. FPS Information and Sales Stand. Stud displays, Pony Sales List, GJICC Information Stand who will be happy to receive gifts given for the auction on Monday, to help cover our expenses, and book contributions. Refreshment van in attendance.
AUGUST 4th SUNDAY
1.00pm Driving Clinic, The Cumbria Campus of the University of Central Lancashire at Newton Rigg Agricultural College, conducted by Miss Jane Brindley, Judge and Driving Competitor for over 25 years, partnered by the late "Eden View Moonstroller".
3.00pm Derek Byas and Isabel Ostle will assist with a practical demonstration of loading and livestock transportation for horses for NVQ certificate. The Cumbria Campus of the University of Central Lancashire at Newton Rigg, FPS, GJICC and RBST publicity stands and sales in attendance. Followed by "Backwards into the Future", a lecture with slides by Pauline Norris M .Phil. of Brocklebeck Stud. Interesting and instructive talk on equine transport through the ages up to current DEFRA legislation on land, sea and air. Derek will assist with a practical demonstration.
Direction to The Cumbria Campus of the University of Central Lancashire at Newton Rigg Agricultural College: take the B5288 West from centre of Penrith, just over the M 6 bridge turn right (North) onto minor road to Newton Reigny. The college is 1 mile on right before the village. Refreshments available. Newton Rigg Students welcome.

AUGUST 5th MONDAY
Murthwaite Stud High Fell Walk with Thomas Capstick. 11.45am ready to move off at 12 noon. Bring stout walking shoes, waterproof coat and a picnic to eat on the top!
Directions: From M6 Junction 38, East onto A685 towards Kirkby Stephen. Approx. 2 miles before Kirkby Stephen take A683 to the right (South) (KS Railway Station and bridge and half a mile further on ‑ you have gone too far!!). Continue on A683 for about 5 miles and park near a tin chapel. FPS signs will be out.

AUGUST 5th EVENING
7.00pm for 7.30 at "The Hired Lad". Any Questions, Auction and Buffet Supper @ £6 each. Licensed bar. Meet your council, Committees, Judges, etc. with questions from the floor, or send in for a GJICC committee member to read out for you. NFU publicity stand, FPS and GJICC stands. An Auction of gifts donated by members from home and abroad and by sponsors. Proceeds to the GJICC to assist with publishing and celebration book plus the week's expenses. Limited to 140 so book early with cheque. £6 per person. Overseas guests can make a firm booking and pay in Sterling at the Breed Show if preferred. [ See more about auction items below ]

AUGUST 6th TUESDAY
Dalemain House and FPS Museum visit.
Directions: From Penrith West on A66, after 1 mile, South onto A592. Dalemain is on the right within about 2 miles. The family home of the late Mrs. Sylvia McCosh and her Dalemain Stud. Historic house, contents, delightful gardens, tea‑rooms and gift shop, etc. Grounds open at 10.30am, House at 11.00am with standard entrance fee. Adults £5.50. Everyone welcome, refreshments available or bring a picnic to eat in the grounds.

7.00PM for 7.30. Tour of the Jenning Bros. Plc Castle Brewery, Cockermouth. Take A66 West beyond Keswick. Follow signs‑into Cockermouth Town Centre, then take up Brewery Tour directions. Cost including supper, tour and beer tasting £9.00 each. Followed by an interesting illustrated talk by David Murray FRGS, Earthwatch Institute Fellow and Millennium Fellow. "My Trip, including the Cumbria section with pack pony "Sleddale Black Prince".

11.00am Lownthwaite Stud visit by kind invitation of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Wales. (Around the farm, not high fell). History, pictures meet some ponies. Gareth Thomas HVM.S MRCVS hopes to be in attendance.
1.00pm Pony Showing Clinic conducted by FPS Judge. Bring a picnic. Hot drinks provided and be
prepared for wet weather! Raffle for North West Support Group funds.

Next round-a-bout take A686 for Alston. Approximately 5 miles, Langwathby village follow the road through the village, under the railway bridge, up the hill and then turn first right for Skirwith, Blencarn.
In the village of Skirwith, right and right again for Blencarn.
1 mile, left for Blencarn.
Take the road for Milburn.
Lownthwaite lies half way between the villages of Blencarn and Milburn. Look for a white house on a hill and a black dutch barn beside the road; two cattle grids opposite each other.

5.45pm for 6.00. Rare Breeds Survival Trust's sponsored Seminar on The Fell Pony Syndrome. A full team of experts on all aspects of the problem. Of interest to every Fell owner. Supper £4.00 kindly subsidised by RBST.

AUGUST 8th THURSDAY
10.30am. Appleby Agricultural Show with Fell Pony and Driving Classes, everyone welcome. Signs on roads approaching.
3.30pm Onwards: Linnel Stud visit, including ponies and illustrated history of our Chairman Mr. Bob Charlton's family involvement with the Fell Pony for more than 100 years. (The largest and oldest stud outside Cumbria). Light refreshments kindly supplied by Sarah. (Silver Collection).

lunch. Meet outside The Salutation Inn at 10.15. Threlkeld is just off the
A66 Penrith - Keswick (not Kendal!!) road. Threlkeld is 4 miles east of
Keswick. After the walk (mid to late afternoon) we can repair to either The
Salutation or The Horse and Farrier for refreshments - not lunch, we shall
be having our packed lunches out on the fell. People may want to go to the
sing song in the evening. They will have plenty of time to get there.
I shall be at the Breed Show on 3rd and can give more details then.
Evening: Music across the Atlantic. Some entertainment
arranged by our North American Liaison Officer, Mrs. Laura Hart and Cumberland
songs arranged off the cuff by Mrs. Sue Millard.
If possible - Please bring instruments and a song/piece from your own country,
region of your country, village, town, hamlet etc! We also plan on leaving time
for casual conversation and good crack (good time, fun, and conversation)! This
is to be a casual evening, not getting up on stage or anything - people will
just sing or play from where they are.
Buffet Supper at £5.50.

Fell Pony Classes at the Lowther Driving Trials and Country Fair (Cross Country Day). Pay at the gate to enter site. Direction signs from A6 South of Penrith. Fell Classes start at 8.45am finish about Lunchtime. FPS and GJICC tent with sales, publicity, etc. open all day.
GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE JUBILEE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
Members, relations, friends and anyone interested in the Fell pony are welcome. We will have lapel name badges for an many officials and guests as possible, to wear at the Social events enabling names to be matched to faces.
GJICC will have two methods of raising funds from members and friends to cover expenses, venue hire, insurance, speakers and entertainment expenses, stationery, postage and publishing of a Celebration Book.
Sponsored cash and gifts from firms, trusts, friends and members. Gifts will be auctioned at our Social Evening on Monday 5th August. Local souvenirs, equine articles, books, jubilee keepsakes from Britain and abroad. Please try to give something, whether you are able to attend the week or not.
Lasting Record - We will be publishing a celebration book, recording our activities of the week, which we hope will be for sale around Christmas, with a special bound copy to be presented to our Patron, HM the Queen.
Stories of ponies from the last 50 years, pictures, tips, recipes, articles from our Daughter Society, Support Groups, and Committees. Please can everyone supply something for the Committee to use. All sponsors will be added and acknowledged.
Wanted Similar posters showing activities of all Support Groups both in Britain and from abroad, area they cover and what they do.
