2007 Fell Pony Society Show & Sale at Penrith

A new centre record price for a foal was the main highlight of the Fell Pony Societies annual show and sale at Penrith Mart. Taking the top price was a black filly, Heltondale Bonny Lass VI from Mrs Greta Noble, Butterwick, Cumbria. This daughter of Murthwaite Look At Me was knocked down after some very brisk bidding to Mr & Mrs Greene from Terregles, Dumfries for 4600gns. Following her across the border was another filly foal that was much admired in the pens before the sale, from Andrew Thorpe near Rochdale. Wellbrow Alma, who has Heltondale breeding on both sides of her pedigree was bought by Ms M Hall from Jedburgh for 1320gns. Andrew Thorpe, who would be one of the largest consignors at the sale had a grand pen of foals. His eight fillies averaged out at 851gns and the five colts at 294gns. Another foal to break the four figure mark was Carrock Daisy, who has done well on the summer show circuit, from Glenis Cockbain, Keswick. She made 1000gns. The pre - sale show champion was a colt, Bybeck Hercules from Colin Roberts, Tebay, however he failed to make his reserve and was withdrawn from the ring unsold. It was Mr & Mrs Greene again who bought the top priced colt foal from Bill Potter, Shap. Greenholme Bright Eyes, by Lunesdale Redstart was knocked down at 440gns. The older ponies sold to 1950gns for Thornbeck Cherry from Mr M Rawlinson but as with the foals, quality ponies were well sought after but plainer sorts were harder to cash.. Brocken ponies sold at 1520gns and 1680gns, both going to the Williamson family at Ulverston, Cumbria. Overall entries were up ( 93 ) on the year as were the averages.
