NORTH EAST SUPPORTERS GROUP
MILLENNIUM LUNCH SUNDAY 21ST OCTOBER AT LINNELS WOOD
BY KIND INVITATION OF BOB AND SARAH CHARLTON

Once again members’ enjoyed a convivial "gather" and generous hospitality at the lunch hosted by Bob and Sarah Charlton.  Everybody is made to feel so welcome whenever we are invited to Linnels and a rare sunny day underlined the beautiful , surrounding Northumberland countryside.  An absolutely splendid lunch was prepared by Sarah and her band of helpers and, judging by the number of "seconds" and "thirds" indulged in, was much appreciated by all.  Quite delicious!  The exhibition in the stables chronicled FOUR generations of R. B. Charltons.  Some wonderful old photographs, articles and memorabilia of ponies, people, places and events illustrating the family involvement with Fell ponies (and Dales ponies , it has to be said!!) over a considerable amount of time.  A selection of the present generation of Linnel ponies, with their names and pedigrees were also on show in the stables, completing a fascinating demonstration of the continuity of the Linnel ponies throughout the whole of the 20th century.  Valerie Russell, a good friend to the Fell Pony, photographed all present, for the future millennium archives.!  We were especially pleased to welcome Hank Marsman and Ben Wielens from our Dutch daughter society and Gareth Thomas from Liverpool University.  Also, Jacki and Bob Clegg who brought a selection of the Society’s sales goods.  In short, good company, a good "crack" and good food = one perfect day.  Very many thanks to Bob and Sarah for having us.
