Fourteenth Southern Show

First of all a couple of pleas from a hassled Chairman of the committee: we have LOST two trophies and are desperately trying to find them.  They are the Bushby Rock Rose Trophy for the Best Turned Out Ridden Pony and the Wolds Trophy for the Open Ridden Gelding.  Please would everybody have a look in their cupboards (and on them) and if anybody finds them please contact me (01159 653584).

The second plea goes to all those people lucky enough to win trophies: a number of trophies have become damaged over the years so please look after them carefully and if any damage occurs let us know so that we can deal with it.  It is heartbreaking to award a trophy only to see it looking unloved and equally heartbreaking to win a trophy that is in a sad condition.  Many of the trophies from both the Southern and Northern Shows have a long history and are awarded in memory of something or someone special, so please treat them with respect.

The Fourteenth Southern Show will be held on 8th September 2002 at Shotover Park, Oxford by kind permission of Sir John Miller.  Judges for 2002 are Gwen Williamson, Peter Boustead, Sarah Prior, Dorothy Billings and Judith Williamson.  We have made one or two changes to the schedule to try to encourage people to enter classes that they may not feel up to so read your schedule carefully and have a go!!  Any member living in the Oxford area, with or without show ponies, is welcome to help us before or on the day of the show!  The help needed can be as simple or as difficult as you like from stuffing envelopes to stewarding.  If anybody would like to help please contact me on 01159 653584.

We are always pleased to see members exhibiting or just spectating at the show and are particularly pleased to see our regular visitors from Cumbria who make such a long trip to the South Midlands. Late entries are always a problem and it is up to YOU to make sure that your entry is in on time, as this year we are going to be tough on lateness.  Schedules will be sent out automatically in May to those who have entered in the last 2 years, but any new exhibitors can obtain schedules from me by sending a LARGE (5" x7") stamped addressed envelope to:

It sounds like a lot of gripes but it isn’t really.  I’m just trying to keep the show running smoothly!  Hope to see you there in 2002!
